By Chris Hansen --BH

祂肋旁的傷提醒我們一項重要的事實;

The Dawkins Delusion?

THE DAWKINS DELUSION?

Review by Rumple (Scotland)
I strongly recommend this book to Christians who have been unsettled by the propaganda that Richard Dawkins has been putting out. It is a very important response, though sadly the impressive rebuttal won’t achieve a fraction of the publicity that the falsehoods have got.
McGrath demolishes Dawkins’ arguments, or rather he demonstrates that his arguments don’t justify his conclusions. It’s not a question of McGrath proving that there is a God, or Dawkins proving that there isn’t. Dawkins’ important and fallacious arguments are that there are no grounds for intelligent people to disagree with him, and McGrath demonstrates that that is an untenable position. However, McGrath has done it before, and the usual reaction has been “well, there isn’t a God anyway”, or “Christianity is based on lies, so Christians can’t complain if other people are less than fair and accurate about them”. This is evident in many of the reviews of this book; “so what about the merits of Dawkins’ arguments. It doesn’t matter, because there is no God”.
Even if there is no God, I can’t see how it justifies dishonesty in support of the point, and McGrath nails Dawkins squarely on the charge of intellectual dishonesty. The book is a reasoned defence of religion, and Christianity in particular against the attacks from Dawkins that it is impossible to be rational, and good, and Christian. It is not meant to be an argument for the existence of God.
Yes, the book is meant to bolster the faithful. Many will have been dismayed and concerned by the ready acceptance in the media that the God Delusion is an important and respectable contribution to the debate about religion, whereas it is really nothing more than a one-sided, dishonest polemic.
McGrath exposes Dawkins spectacular arrogance, showing how he strays over into areas in which he has no expertise, such as anthropology, sociology, philosophy and psychology. He ignores the accumulated wisdom of these disciplines, and attempts to reason his way through from scratch.
Of course, Dawkins does the same with theology but he does have a ready answer in that case; that theology is a non-subject, and such patent nonsense that he does not need to waste his time understanding the details in order to dismiss it in its entirety. That stance would be reasonable for a pub argument, but it is ludicrous from someone who is actually writing books on the subject, and it is deplorable from someone who makes a healthy living as a self-appointed “expert” on religion. The God Delusion contains theological statements that are breathtakingly wrong. Dawkins cannot expect to be taken seriously as a writer on religion if he cannot be bothered establishing what it is that he is attacking.

(Man was created in the image of God)

Gregg Eastbrook

Is There a God?
Does God exist? Is there proof of God? The following offers candid, straight-forward reasons to believe in the existence of God...

existence of God

By Marilyn Adamson

Just once wouldn't you love for someone to simply show you the evidence for God's existence? No arm-twisting. No statements of, "You just have to believe." Well, here is an attempt to candidly offer some of the reasons which suggest that God exists.

But first consider this. If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.

When it comes to the possibility of God's existence, the Bible says that there are people who have seen sufficient evidence, but they have suppressed the truth about God.1 On the other hand, for those who want to know God if he is there, he says, "You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you."2 Before you look at the facts surrounding God's existence, ask yourself, If God does exist, would I want to know him? Here then, are some reasons to consider...

B

1. Does God exist? The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today

...2. Does God exist? The human brain's complexity shows a higher intelligence behind it

...3. Does God exist? "Chance" or "natural causes" are insufficient explanations

...4. Does God exist? To state with certainty that there is no God, a person has to ignore the passion of an enormously vast number of people who are convinced that there is a God....5. Does God exist? We know God exists because He pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to Him.

I was an atheist at one time. And like most atheists, the issue of people believing in God bothered me greatly. What is it about atheists that we would spend so much time, attention, and energy refuting something that we don't believe even exists?! What causes us to do that? When I was an atheist, I attributed my intentions as caring for those poor, delusional people...to help them realize their hope was completely ill-founded. To be honest, I also had another motive. As I challenged those who believed in God, I was deeply curious to see if they could convince me otherwise. Part of my quest was to become free from the question of God. If I could conclusively prove to believers that they were wrong, then the issue is off the table, and I would be free to go about my life.

proof of GodI didn't realize that the reason the topic of God weighed so heavily on my mind, was because God was pressing the issue. I have come to find out that God wants to be known. He created us with the intention that we would know him. He has surrounded us with evidence of himself and he keeps the question of his existence squarely before us. It was as if I couldn't escape thinking about the possibility of God. In fact, the day I chose to acknowledge God's existence, my prayer began with, "Ok, you win..." It might be that the underlying reason atheists are bothered by people believing in God is because God is actively pursuing them.

I am not the only one who has experienced this. Malcolm Muggeridge, socialist and philosophical author, wrote, "I had a notion that somehow, besides questing, I was being pursued." C.S. Lewis said he remembered, "...night after night, feeling whenever my mind lifted even for a second from my work, the steady, unrelenting approach of Him whom I so earnestly desired not to meet. I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England."

Lewis went on to write a book titled, "Surprised by Joy" as a result of knowing God. I too had no expectations other than rightfully admitting God's existence. Yet over the following several months, I became amazed by his love for me.

6. Does God exist? Unlike any other revelation of God, Jesus Christ is the clearest, most specific picture of God pursuing us.

Why Jesus? Look throughout the major world religions and you'll find that Buddha, Muhammad, Confucius and Moses all identified themselves as teachers or prophets. None of them ever claimed to be equal to God. Surprisingly, Jesus did. That is what sets Jesus apart from all the others. He said God exists and you're looking at him. Though he talked about his Father in heaven, it was not from the position of separation, but of very close union, unique to all humankind. Jesus said that anyone who had seen Him had seen the Father, anyone who believed in him, believed in the Father.

He said, "I am the light of the world, he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life."8 He claimed attributes belonging only to God: to be able to forgive people of their sin, free them from habits of sin, give people a more abundant life and give them eternal life in heaven. Unlike other teachers who focused people on their words, Jesus pointed people to himself. He did not say, "follow my words and you will find truth." He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but through me."9

What proof did Jesus give for claiming to be divine? He did what people can't do. Jesus performed miracles. He healed people...blind, crippled, deaf, even raised a couple of people from the dead. He had power over objects...created food out of thin air, enough to feed crowds of several thousand people. He performed miracles over nature...walked on top of a lake, commanding a raging storm to stop for some friends. People everywhere followed Jesus, because he constantly met their needs, doing the miraculous. He said if you do not want to believe what I'm telling you, you should at least believe in me based on the miracles you're seeing.10

Jesus Christ showed God to be gentle, loving, aware of our self-centeredness and shortcomings, yet deeply wanting a relationship with us. Jesus revealed that although God views us as sinners, worthy of his punishment, his love for us ruled and God came up with a different plan. God himself took on the form of man and accepted the punishment for our sin on our behalf. Sounds ludicrous? Perhaps, but many loving fathers would gladly trade places with their child in a cancer ward if they could. The Bible says that the reason we would love God is because he first loved us.

Jesus died in our place so we could be forgiven. Of all the religions known to humanity, only through Jesus will you see God reaching toward humanity, providing a way for us to have a relationship with him. Jesus proves a divine heart of love, meeting our needs, drawing us to himself. Because of Jesus' death and resurrection, he offers us a new life today. We can be forgiven, fully accepted by God and genuinely loved by God. He says, "I have loved you with an everlasting love, therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you."11 This is God, in action.

Does God exist? If you want to know, investigate Jesus Christ. We're told that "God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."12

God does not force us to believe in him, though he could. Instead, he has provided sufficient proof of his existence for us to willingly respond to him. The earth's perfect distance from the sun, the unique chemical properties of water, the human brain, DNA, the number of people who attest to knowing God, the gnawing in our hearts and minds to determine if God is there, the willingness for God to be known through Jesus Christ. If you need to know more about Jesus and reasons to believe in him, please see: Beyond Blind Faith.

If you want to begin a relationship with God now, you can.

This is your decision, no coercion here. But if you want to be forgiven by God and come into a relationship with him, you can do so right now by asking him to forgive you and come into your life. Jesus said, "Behold, I stand at the door [of your heart] and knock. He who hears my voice and opens the door, I will come into him [or her]."13 If you want to do this, but aren't sure how to put it into words, this may help: "Jesus, thank you for dying for my sins. You know my life and that I need to be forgiven. I ask you to forgive me right now and come into my life. I want to know you in a real way. Come into my life now. Thank you that you wanted a relationship with me. Amen."

God views your relationship with him as permanent. Referring to all those who believe in him, Jesus Christ said of us, "I know them, and they follow me; and I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish, and no one shall snatch them out of my hand."14

So, does God exist? Looking at all these facts, one can conclude that a loving God does exist and can be known in an intimate, personal way. If you need more information about Jesus' claim to divinity, or about God's existence, or if you have similar important questions, please email us.

Fabricating Jesus

FABRICATING JESUS

Review by Craig Blomberg.

Craig Evans, the Payzant Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Acadia Divinity School in Nova Scotia, is one of the foremost evangelical New Testament scholars in our world today. Regularly interviewed for major network documentaries and author of countless articles and several fine monographs, particularly in the area of historical Jesus studies, Evans here makes a huge amount of complicated and controversial material understandable and readily accessible to the educated layperson and introductory theological student.

Evans’ main objective throughout this concise volume is to debunk the claims of radical, unrepresentative scholarship about Jesus and the Gospels. Chapters 1-10 each treat, in turn, scholarly cul de sacs and carefully explain why these dead ends develop. Chapter 11 then helps the reader piece together the true insights that have emerged from each previous chapter and more systematically addresses who the real Jesus was.

Chapter 1 points out how C. S. Lewis’ famous “liar, lunatic or Lord” triad of options excludes at least two main approaches of contemporary skeptics–those who see him as a prophet, sage or other significant historical figure because they sift through the Gospels to find a smaller core of truly authentic material and those who portray him as quite different from historic Christian claims because they reject all or nearly all of the canonical accounts as reliable. Using the published autobiographical reflections of Robert Funk and James Robinson to illustrate the first category of skepticism, and of Robert Price and Bart Ehrman as examples of the second, Evans highlights one recurrent problem–the all-or-nothing approach that leads some people to think that, if they cannot accept strict biblical inerrancy or harmonize every last detail in the Gospels, they must reject most or all of them (a mistake, I might add, sadly perpetuated by many very conservative evangelicals, too, who thus unwittingly send more hesitant skeptics over the edge).

Chapter 2 addresses the need for having valid criteria of authenticity in order to determine if the main contours of the Synoptic tradition of Jesus are indeed trustworthy. Evans believes that such standard historical criteria as that which is multiply attested, fits an early first-century Palestinian environment, would have proved embarrassing to the early church, or coheres with material authenticated by other reliable criteria, and so on, are the right tools for the task.

Evans next devotes two chapters to later extra-canonical “Christian” texts that paint a dramatically different picture of Jesus than the canonical Gospels present. Spending an entire chapter on the well-known Gospel of Thomas, and a second on the Gospel of Peter, Papyrus Egerton, the Gospel of Mary and the so-called Secret Gospel of Mark, Evans provides solid reasons for viewing all of these as no earlier than second century in origin and rarely, if ever, preserving reliable information about Jesus of any kind, much less data that should be viewed as more reliable than that found in Matthew, Mark, Luke or John. The one anomaly is Secret Mark, which is, in all probability, not an ancient document at all but entirely a modern hoax perpetrated by Morton Smith, as several recent studies have virtually conclusively demonstrated.

God is not mocked!

http://funp.com/t154095&via=tools#p=154095

As we go about our daily lives, the world continues to deteriorate speedily…increasing in confusion. The evils surrounding us are incomprehensible. Not a day passes without the media exposing another example of the horrible, degenerate state of modern man’s mind.

There are murders of whole families, and there are spouses killing spouses, and children killing their parents. Even classmates are shooting each other. Selfish ambition and greed are escalating out of control, prompting business-class men…holding titles of high esteem…to steal vast amounts of money from the clientele who trusted them. These are only a few of the evils plaguing our society.

Recently, the possible nuclear war with Iran hung like a shroud over our heads, while another disaster now looms large…an economic recession/depression that is threatening the economies of the world. Also, does anyone want another satellite launched that may someday need to be shot down as it crashes back to earth with its lethal contents ready to spill all over us? God says the wisdom of man is foolishness to Him…1 COR. 3:19 “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it written, “He catches the wise in their own craftiness”. God is watching us. God is not mocked.

Right now, the world scoffs at the existence of God: 2 Peter 3:3…”Knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days walking according to their own lusts.” Vs 4 and saying, “Where is the promise of HIS coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”

To mock is to ridicule, make fun of, tease or taunt. To thumb one’s nose at the Great Creator God is no laughing matter…..Proverbs15:3 says …. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good”. We are not alone!

And Jeremiah 16:17 says: “For My eyes are on all their ways: they are not hidden from My eyes.” God’s eyes scan to and fro…throughout the whole earth, constantly watching, constantly monitoring his creation (Zechariah 4:10).

God is in complete control. As the days pass, which may seem long and very trying, especially for people who seek to do God’s will, we are assured that God will repay man for his wickedness and bring it to an end. King David wrote in Psalm 37:9 “…..evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, they shall inherit the earth, Vs. 10, for yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more…”

God doesn’t count time like we do. The time from David until now has seemed like only a short time to Him. We know in 2nd Peter 3:8 it says that, “one day is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day to God”. But we also know from this that God is counting the time. There is a day of reckoning coming.

Isaiah 47:10 explains the mindset and destiny of this evil world… “For you have trusted in your own wickedness. You have said, no one sees me. Your wisdom and your knowledge have led you astray. And have said in your heart I am and there is no one else besides me”….Vs. 14 “Behold, they shall be as stubble, the fire shall burn them, they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame….see also Malachi 4:1.

In conclusion, to mock God is a terrible offense. We forget the all-powerful God is only patient, not weak. The abuse that has been heaped on Him will come back powerfully on mankind until such foolishness is completely repented of. GOD IS WATCHING EVERYTHING. The wicked shall have their reward… But, until then, unfortunately, they will continue to prosper in their ways.

Let’s be sure that we aren’t mocking HIM. Stand fast for His truth and wait patiently for His recompense. Remember Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked, for whatever a mans sows, that he will also reap.”

What Happens After Death?

http://www.answertheskeptic.com/index.php/what-happens-after-death/2008/04/04

For the entire existence of mankind, we have struggled with the question, “What happens after death?” Our answer to this dilemma has great implications for our life here on earth. Although many avoid the issue, we must sooner or later address the question. There are many competing answers to this question.

Atheists believe that at death one ceases to exist. There is no afterlife or eternal soul that continues in eternity. All there is to look forward to is our inevitable death, the future death of mankind, and the universe. It is in the face of this future that the atheist must seek to find meaning and purpose for his own existence.

The Eastern and New Age religions that hold to a pantheistic worldview teach that one goes through an endless cycle of reincarnation until the cycle is broken and the person becomes one with the divine. What form a person becomes in the next life depends on the quality of life lived in the previous life. When one unites with the divine, he ceases to exist as an individual, but becomes part of the divine life force, like a drop of water returning to the ocean.

Those who hold to the animistic or tribal religions believe that after death the human soul remains on the earth or travels to join the departed spirits of the ancestors in the underworld, also called the realm of the shadows. For eternity they wander in darkness, experiencing neither joy nor sorrow. Some of the spirits of the deceased may be called upon to aid or torment those on earth.

Islam teaches that at the end of history, God will judge the works of all men. Those whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds will enter into paradise. The rest will be consigned to hell. The Koran teaches that in paradise men will be drinking wine and entertained by heavenly maidens and that they may take several of these maidens for their wives.

Most worldviews must accept their belief in the afterlife on untested faith, but the Christian hope is sure for two reasons; the resurrection of Christ and the testimony of God’s Word. The Bible gives us the true view of what happens after death. However, many Christians have a misunderstanding of the afterlife. Some believe that they become one of the angels, others believe they go into a state of “soul sleep,” while others believe they will be floating on clouds playing harps. In this article, we will examine some popular misconceptions of what lies beyond the grave and perceive what the Bible teaches.

Christians can be assured that death is not something to be feared. Instead, at death we arrive home in heaven. To live means we exist in a foreign country. Death has lost its sting and now is a victory through the resurrection of Jesus our Lord.

If I Had Only 2 Dimensions

Dear friend, think about this, if I had only 2 dimensions as a flatlander, how could you introduce you to me as a 3 dimensional person? ( If I don't have the sense to perceive 3 dimensions, how can you make me understand that you have that extra dimension I don't have?) Well perhaps I could start to look at the shadows you project on the ground and wonder the mystery of you whose shapes change all the times and all a sudden your shadows disappear in the darkness too. I would wonder if you exist or not? What kind of a mysterious guy you are? ...etc. Even if I think so hard almost punching a hole in my brain I couldn't figure you out. Worst of all, if there is no light then I don’t think you exist at all.

I hope this analogy reminds you how tough for one to get into extra dimension he/she doesn't have, let alone spiritual dimension. For example, carps in the pond wouldn't understand our normal world beyond their watery world.

Actually if you could speak flatlanders’ language then you could describe yourself to them and your voice would make them aware of your existence, right? However, your self descriptions may still sound unbelievable to them. The best way seems that if you could become a flatlander yourself and speak their languages then there is possibility that they may come to know the true you. (well still partially since now you have stripped one dimension off yourself.) Nevertheless, it is still tough job for you to let flatlanders know the true you.

Somehow that explains the incarnation of Jesus-- He became a human being to reveal to us the invisible God. Do all these make sense to you now? It is hard for us to imagine 4th, 5th dimensions, not to mention infinite dimensions and spiritual dimension that only God can bring us into. That was why Jesus told an old intelligent man Nicodemus that he has to be born again( in spirit ) in order to see God's kingdom.

notes: After I wrote the above essay, I do come to realize my own blind spots in the analogy. Because if I were a flatlander, I probably wouldn't have eyes to see or ears to hear because all these organs are 3 dimensional. I was very limited to only able to think 3 dimensionally even when I was trying to imagine if I only had 2 dimensions. The flatlanders are doomed not able to figure out 3 dimensional world or persons. The best way is to add a 3rd dimension to the flatlander then he/she would simply understand the reality of 3 dimensional world. That is exactly what the Holy Spirit has done to open up a spiritual dimension for us to understand and see God's kingdom. ( If only one repents and believes in Jesus as his/her own personal Savior then the Holy Spirit will indwell in that person and restore his/her lost spiritual dimension.) Please excuse me, dear friend, after all an analogy is only an analogy, we couldn't push every details to match every part of the analogy or else it will certainly fall apart.

C.S. Lewis: A Short Introduction
By Philip Vander Elst

The analogy Lewis used to explain the Trinity was that of the cube:

On the human level one person is one being, and any two persons are two separate beings - just as, in two dimensions (say on a flat sheet of paper) one square is one-figure and any two squares we two separate figures. On the Divine level you still find personalities, but up there you find them combined in new ways which we, who do not live on that level cannot imagine. In God's dimension, so to speak, you find a being who is three Persons while remaining one Being, just as a cube is six squares while remaining one cube. Of course we cannot fully conceive a Being like that: just as, if we were so made that we perceived only two dimensions in space we could never properly imagine a cube. But we can get a sort of faint notion of it. (Mere Christianity, pp. 138-9)

...Thus we see that the Trinitarian conception of God is not some fantastic piece of theological gobbledegook dreamed up by the early Church, but a perfectly rational formulation about the Divine nature based on revelation (mainly but not solely through and in relation to Christ) but also appealing to reason, since it shows how God can be self-existent Love and therefore the source of human love. ( Philip Vander Elst)

…There is no good complaining that these statements are difficult. Christianity claims to be telling us about another world about something behind the world we can touch and hear and see. You may think the claim false; but if it were true, what it tells us would be bound to be difficult, - at least as difficult as modem Physics, and for the same reason... If Christianity was something we were making up, of course we could make it easier. But it is not. We cannot compete, in simplicity, with people who are inventing religion. How could we? We are dealing with Fact. Of course anyone can be simple if he has no facts to bother about. (Mere Christianity, p.134)

Jesus before Pilate by Brian Jekel
